2010 11 13 - Chopin by the lake @ SBG



Julian Gargiulo, who has gained a reputation worldwide for his humour infused performances, will bring his show "Chopin and Gargiulo, A Tale of Two Expats" to the Symphony Stage at Botanical Gardens in Singapore on Saturday, Nov 13th at 6:30pm. Sharing his own brand of wit while playing some of the world’s greatest classical music, Julian has received rave reviews for his unique and charismatic concert performances which have taken place in famous concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Moscow Conservatory Hall and Verona Philharmonic Hall, to name but a few. The evening will include works from his latest CD mostlyjulian which features his own jazz-influenced compositions along with those of Chopin.

Biography:
Julian Lawrence Gargiulo is a dynamic classical pianist who renders the compositions of renowned masters with extraordinary passion and precision, and fills the concert hall with his personal brand of charm, humor and charisma. He has performed in the United States, Canada, England, Italy, France, Germany, Russia, Singapore, Philippines, China, and Australia, meeting always with both public and critical acclaim.

Mr. Gargiulo performs regularly throughout the world in halls such as Carnegie Hall (US), United Nations' Dag Hammarskjöld Auditorium (US), Moscow Conservatory Hall (Russia), Verona Philharmonic Hall (Italy), The Esplanade (Singapore) and the Seymour Theatre Centre (Australia). Collaborations include performances with soprano Olga Makarina of the Metropolitan Opera, choreographer Neta Pulvermacher, composer/conductor Octavio Vazquez and trumpet virtuoso Josef Burgstaller. TV and Radio appearances include stations such as RAI International (Italy), RAI Tre (Italy), RTN (Russia), CTV (Canada), Radio One - CBS (USVI), Paradise Radio (USVI) and SBS (Australia).

Highlights this season include the release of his sixth CD 'Mostly Julian' with works of Gargiulo and Chopin, tours of Italy, the Caribbean and Southeast Asia.
Born and educated in Italy, with dual U.S. and Italian citizenship, Mr. Gargiulo studied at the Verona State Conservatory (Randone), the Mugi Academy in Rome (Ciccolini) and the Moscow State Conservatory (Mezhlumov). In the United States he received his Bachelor's Degree at Rowan University (Zuponcic), Master's Degree at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University (Slutsky), and his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree at the University of Maryland (Rodriguez). Dr. Gargiulo is the founder and director of the Sacred Heart Concert Series, a program that brings classical music to younger audiences and the Water Island Classical Music Festival in the Virgin Islands.

In 2008 Julian founded the Non-profit organization 16000children.org which brings together musicians, visual artists and filmmakers in creating events to raise awareness for the 16000 children that die of hunger in the world every day. Performances worldwide began in Mar 2010.
In 2009 Julian was also named Artistic Director of 'Crossing Borders', a Hunter College (NY) program which presents established foreign artists currently living in NY.
This year Julian began writing a classical music column for the main paper in the Cayman Islands, The Cayman Compass.

Mr. Gargiulo currently resides in New York City.
